PM: Transfer of Power to Sub-National Administration is Part of the Success of the Fight Against Covid-19

PHNOM PENH: Prime Minister Hun Sen highlighted the advantages brought about by dividing functions and roles at the sub-national level, especially through Cambodia's success in overcoming the Covid-19 pandemic.

Speaking at the launching ceremony of the National Program for Sub-National Democratic Development Phase II (2021-2030) at Sokha Hotel on Monday, 21 March, Prime Minister Hun Sen said that because Cambodia had undergone timely transfer of power to the sub-national administration, this allowed the country's Covid-19 management campaign to be very successful.

He also observed that at present, some provinces have recorded no Covid-19 infections.

"The successful two-year experience of fighting Covid-19 is the success of the division of labor and the transfer of power to the grassroots. At this point, if something is waiting [to move forward] at the national level, and the sub-national level cannot act according to the scope of work and response immediately, we could not succeed in the way that we have today," remarked Prime Minister Hun Sen.
